Happy Birthday, Doroteia! 🎶
Today, November 11, we celebrate the birthday of one of our dedicated volunteers and talented singers — Doroteia!
Exactly five years ago, just two days before her birthday — on November 9, 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic — 15-year-old Doroteia was invited to share her heartfelt testimony about the challenges she faced as a student during quarantine.
She spoke honestly about how isolation had deeply affected her studies and her social life. “My school is not safe,” she said at the time. But after the short interview, she lifted everyone’s spirits by offering us something truly beautiful — a song from the depths of her heart:

Her voice carried the emotion of a generation that missed friends, school, and the warmth of everyday life. Through the lyrics, she transformed sadness into hope:
“Saudade burns and hurts, harmonizes and hurts, heals and hurts,Time passed like the wind that blew…I still remember the last hug, my friends, and my school.I can’t stand this quarantine…Saudade of you, saudade that lives in me…”
That performance reminded us all that even in moments of distance and uncertainty, music can heal and connect hearts.
Today, five years later, we look back with gratitude — and we celebrate not only the young girl who once sang about longing but also the strong, inspiring woman she has become.
This year, just a month before her birthday, we had the joy of visiting Doroteia at her home and offering her a free British menstrual kit — and with her warm smile, she simply said:
“Thank you so much, I loved it!” 💖
